TRR’s first timed Ford Raptor event, RaptorX, was a blast! An arctic blast, that is. A huge winter storm rolled into the area the day before RaptorX. By Friday morning, the Texana Ranch professional off road racecourse was covered in over an inch of ice. A very difficult decision was made to push everything back to Saturday and Sunday. Luckily it warmed up Friday night and by Saturday morning all of the ice had melted. The RaptorX track was a little muddy, but that didn’t stop participants from trying to put down the fastest lap on the 2.6 mile course. The track was laid out by TRR founder Trey Palreiro and Carl Beal, Trophy Truck racer, Best In the Desert 2014 Rookie of the Year and owner of the Texana Ranch. It featured a variety of terrain, 2 large “NASCAR” bermed 180 corners, a long straightaway with a great whoop section at the beginning, a twisty section weaving between live oaks, finishing up with a bermed downhill corner that offered great views for spectators as the participants pushed their Ford Raptors to the limit. Every participant was able to get in two practice laps and two timed laps on Saturday, then one practice lap and one timed lap on Sunday. By Sunday, the track surface had dried up to perfect conditions and the times showed it. The fastest lap of the weekend was handed in by Garrett Ritchie from 806 Desert Customs, a blindingly fast 3 minutes 45 seconds. Top 3 finishers in both classes received great prizes from our awesome TRR sponsors. The event would not have been possible without the help of ReadyLIFT, Rogue Racing, Nitto Tire, 806 Desert Customs, SVC, Rigid Industries, Xtreme Outfitters, SDHQ, and Designs-N-Signs. TRR would also like to thank Texana Ranch, Ross Creek Trailriders, Claire Pedregon Photography for the awesome shots, and Sawyer Richburg for the great video!
